Is Itchy Scalp The Same As Dandruff?
Dry scalp isn't dandruff, but the symptoms look the same.
Causes of Dry Scalp
Dry scalp produces small white flakes of dead skin, and your scalp may tingle and feel itchy. Dry scalp is caused by washing your hair too often, using shampoo that contains sodium laureth sulphate or sodium lauryl sulphate (SLES/SLS) - two common irritants. Dry scalp can also occur when the humidity drops, when using baking soda as a shampoo alternative, and from having a sun burnt scalp.
Dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis (SD) looks very similar to dry scalp but the flakes are larger, yellow, waxy and more widespread. If you suspect you might have dandruff please see your GP for advice.
Treatments for Dry Scalp
If you suspect you have dry scalp try washing your hair less often with an SLES/SLS free shampoo. You can try leaving our MP Natural Moisturising Conditioner in your hair overnight to allow the nurturing argan oil to nurture and heal your scalp. Follow up by washing your hair in an SLES/SLS free shampoo in the morning, such as our MP Natural Mosituring Shampoo. Once per week rinse your scalp with diluted apple cider vinegar (2 parts water to 1 part vinegar). The alkaline vinegar can help to decrease the scalps pH level and re-balance the alkalinity of dry skin.
What’s the Big Deal about Sulphates?
Sulphates such as SLES/SLS are added to conventional shampoo to give the user a fun high foaming experience, but unfortunately they strip your hair of its natural oils and can actually leave your hair feeling rough and your scalp itchy.
Natural shampoo and conditioner is better for the environment! We often forget that the makeup and hair care products we wash down the drain can end up in our eco-system, and SLES/SLS is potentially toxic on aquatic organisms. Shampoo and Conditioner that is plant-based is biodegradable and much better for the environment, giving us clean hair and a clean planet.

I don't know why I didn't figure this out sooner! I use shampoo in the shower. When I wash my hair the shampoo goes down my body ... and there is a label that clearly states, "FOR EXTRA BODY AND VOLUME." No wonder I am gaining weight! I threw out that dangerous shampoo and have decided I am going to use the Palmolive dish soap because that label reads, "THIS WILL DISSOLVE FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE!" – Anon
